The youth join gangs to be apart of a family that they don’t have. Because they may not have support or attention at home. When joining a gang they usually tell you they will support and protect you making it a family one never had. Gangs can be a way to survive for some people. It’s their way of getting money for food, clothing, and shelter. Young children in the community are more likely to join gangs then be unprotected and vulnerable. Some feel the need to be part of a gang because of peer pressure such as dares, harassment, and intimidation. Another form of peer pressure is “family tradition” and its one of the hardest ways to escape being part of a gang. Others that are part of a gang get a “rush” from committing crimes and it attracts them more to be in a gang. Gangs are present throughout Canada in urban areas. Gangs are very present in

Saskatchewan. In Regina alone there is 5 gangs. There’s also Hell’s Angels across Saskatchewan. In Canada there is many crime groups and gangs.
